Our Story — Breeding Golden Retrievers Since 2006

Gernert's Goldens was founded in 2006 by Tim and Donna Gernert, whose love for golden retrievers began with their first family golden, Eli. What started as a passion for the breed evolved into a dedicated breeding program focused on producing exceptional family companions.

Today, Gernert's Goldens is a small, family-run breeding program located in Springfield, Ohio. We take pride in raising our puppies in our home, providing early socialization and enrichment to ensure they develop into well-adjusted, confident dogs. New Owner Resources

Preparing for Your Puppy

If you will commit to two weeks of concentrated training, you will be shocked at what a well behaved dog you will have. This is just to get you started in owning the best dog ever!

Feeding Guide

We recommend Hill's Science Diet Large Breed Puppy Food for the first year. Their little bodies are growing at an incredibly fast rate and need this good nutrition.

  • Free Feeding: Leave dry food out all the time, removing it at 8:00 PM for potty training
  • Scheduled Feeding: Measure a certain amount two to three times a day
  • Both methods have their merits—choose what works best for your family

Crate & Potty Training

Consistency is key to helping your puppy learn proper bathroom habits.

  • Take your puppy outside every two hours during the day
  • Use a consistent word like "go potty" and praise enthusiastically
  • Remove food at 8:00 PM and take puppy out before crating for the night
  • In the morning, take puppy straight outside before greeting

Health & Prevention

Keep your golden healthy with proper preventative care.

  • Maintain regular veterinary checkups
  • Use veterinarian-recommended heartworm and flea prevention products
  • Shots and boosters as recommended
